Sonnet for Mr. Trump

We’ve had thirty years to love and live
Compressed distress at first though not of late,
And now at last we have something to give
To those we love to soften, ease their fate.
It isn’t much, but much the richer we
Have been for some few years by work and luck
Than ever we believed we two could be
Since we first met and were quickly lovestruck.
This happiness and peace now we enjoy
Has been enough; we could stop now and know
We’ve overbalanced troubles with great joy,
But some we love most dearly can’t say so.
Please Trump, don’t bomb the world to watch it burn;
Our children and their children need a turn.
