For the Start of This Year

Crows own Winter skies
the way a lover’s hand owns skin
skating over it to create dimensions
layering each with a sound so slight
light shines through the surfaces
all the way down to the ground-

Their calls raucous and clear
weave jagged patterns into air
making dancing particles visible
as the galvanizing of skin on skin
invisible currents letting light
shine through to the other side-

Crowcalls and patterns of winged flight
lovers’ electric arcs of simple touch-
what’s invisible remains to strengthen us
when we are shocked into silent paralysis
and must find comfort and persistence
in one another’s goodwill and courage.

I think that if this is the start of the year, I can’t wait to see what the end of the year brings. Bravo,Jane. For me the poem echoes the Song of Songs in the Hebrew Scriptures. “invisible currents letting light shine through to the other side-” gives it a mystical quality. This line is also reminiscent for me of the connections between innovative physics and mysticism. We are all connected once connected by energy passing.

    Happy New Year!

Rita! Yes! I am fascinated by physics, especially strong and weak forces and quantum theory. They’re are both literal and figuratively important to me. Thank you for seeing that! Happy New Year!

So what do you think?
