One More Before the Election (sonnet)

In pixilated thoughtstreams flowing by-
These echo chambers we learn nothing by-
These aren’t the streams Heraclitus spoke of,
Nor careful introspection, outward love.
So dip your toe-your foot-your head into
The rivers of these thoughtless words we spew
Around false images and polarizing
Exaggerated oppositions rising.
Or maybe we’re still capable of thought…
Our own, I mean, fresh intuitions sought
In peaceful isolation from the streams
Of repetition and abuse and memes.
If we reject constant manipulation,
Remember how to think, we save our nation.
