Sonnet for My Beloved’s Retirement

Toward another future-fourth at least
For you and me together as we stand-
We look now and acknowledge how each one
Has been more playful, happier than the last.
I write notes that may be farewells or may
Be invitations to enjoy our life
Along with us as we find newer ways
To be forever truer to ourselves.
The choices that we’ve made have led us here,
Along with grace for what we can’t deserve.
Our main job now: to generate each day
A colorful new crop of gratitude.
Regardless of what storms we’ve yet to weather,
We know one thing: we’ll stand through them together.
