Filters, a sonnet

This cave wall with its shadows built of time
Of images and memories and sound-
It differs from your own-it’s only mine-
I cannot see beyond; I am cavebound.
The lovely butterfly with shapely wings
Of white seems to me just a cabbage worm,
While to you it’s the prettiest of things;
Our lives make separation hard and firm.
So when I say you’re beautiful to me,
I need you to believe I tell the truth.
What’s hidden from you, I can’t help but see,
Perspective is our separation’s proof.
The bridge we build between our histories,
Then, is one of Love’s greatest mysteries.
