Garlic

Garlic lies curing upstairs.
Gentle handling and soft brushing
took some of the soil away.
Now we wait for weeks
until the skins grow papery
until the cloves will keep.
Their juices warm the winter
making the seasons mesh
into constant delight.

Gentle handling and curing
cost patience and time
spill out joys
like a fountain fed
by the green sea.
