Sonnet for the Song

We swim in a warm sea of diverse spirits,
Some familiar faces that we love;
Most are strangers now or something near it,
Upturned faces watching what’s above.
Every discrete mind shapes its reality,
Each interpreting the universe
Through its own lens of hope or causality,
Love or fear–or even something worse.
Drifting, swimming, moving ever nearer
To the final lines of discrete song,
Every lonely spirit needs a hearer,
Every song its spirit sings along.
So let me sing to you; you sing to me
Until we join the song of that great sea.
