Time (sonnet)

Narrow long-stemmed flower of what is,
Permit of the moment, of today,
Funnels all our wishes to this hour,
Shapes forgetting, lightens the mind’s play.
Images from past days shadow out,
Thinning so they may fit in this point
Overstuffed already with the fresh
Details of the new day still disjoint.
Now leaves little room for memories
Save what fits the patterns we employ,
Shaping what survives by hopes of fewer
Sorrow-burdened days and more of joy.
So let’s now choose our future in light of
Today’s sweet pattern formed for us by Love.

Jane! I have truly missed the beauty of your words. I’m trying to find the time for reading and posting more regularly. How are you? – Noora
