Longing for Silence

It’s still there
under the constant hums
that scatter our minds
the way tufts of dog hair
scatter in shedding season.

Clear away the blowing heat
turn off the glowing screens
go someplace without “power”
where you cannot plug in
and you might find it:

The silence that birthed the stars
in the great blackness that was
before light and heat and sound-
silence that spun in itself
generating the sun, love and you.
