Why You should Have Taken Me With You

You hung me up on tenterhooks this morning
Attending surgeon’s consult on your own,
Just as you did yesterday without warning
Calling from the doctor’s on the phone.
Have you not figured out yet that my peace
Depends on yours as well as on your health?
Oh, sure, I’m codependent; that’s increased
With each year your love’s been my only wealth.
I’m sure, if you’d use your imagination,
You’d swiftly come to understand my point:
My own peace grows in parallel gradation
To yours, so you have left mine out of joint.
So take this in the spirit that’s intended:
What’s broken is in tandem sooner mended.
