How to write a poem (sonnet)

First dissolve the window that protects
Your heart and mind from what you must let in;
Put it in your pocket for when you
Need it to construct the outer skin.
Second, use your senses to pin down
With as much precision as you can
All the truth and life that wisps past fast,
Draw the shapes as true as you can stand.
Finally, then, color what you may
With everything you’ve learned from joy and pain;
Shape the final vignette to depict
All the truth that moment can sustain.
Wrapped in its container made from glass
Your poem preserved the moment as it passed.
