The Trouble With Heaven (sonnet)

Since I’m already living in the clouds,
More peaceful and more joyful than allowed
In any other headspace I have known
Whether as a child or since I’ve grown–
Given I have nothing to desire,
No happiness to which I would aspire
That I don’t have now, nowhere I would go
To find delights other than those I know–
With all of these bright blessings to surround us,
Needing nothing else to feed or ground us,
Knowing we need just each other’s eyes
To light our little earthly paradise–
How can one call threaten to destroy
All this peace and happiness and joy?
