Mundane Love Song

In the rumble of the dryer,
In the snuffling of the dogs,
In the gurgling of water
In the clearing of the clogs,

In the creaking of the floorboards
In the folding of the clothes,
When the freezer’s opened up,
It’s in the fog that from it flows,

In the simmering of dinner
In the pot upon the fire,
In the washing of the dog feet
In mud season’s constant mire,

There’s a music playing softly,
Almost too low to be heard,
A sweet melody repeatedly
Plays on without a word:

The song plays on in daylight and
In night regardless of
Its listeners’ attention, for
The song is made of love.
