The Center

Redtail hawk roams circles high above
This house that clothes necessity in love;
Her feathered coat, soaked by this icy rain
Yet warm within, defends her from cold’s pain.
Who made her coat effective in the cold
And snow of Winter so she may be bold
To surf the waves of wind no matter how
They blow or what they carry-who knows how?
The hand that shaped her feathers also made
The Lover’s hand that offers, unafraid,
Warm shelter to the goal of his devotion,
Peace in the midst of this harsh world’s commotion.
So Love provides for us a peaceful center
Into which, as Lovers, we may enter.
