Thank You Note (sonnet)

The hours won from sleeplessness last night
Sufficed to build this raft I float today
Along the stream of tasks I set myself
Not more nor less than any other day.
But as I slept through early morning hours
With no external, day-long job to do,
A perfume of both cinnamon and crust
And apples wafted up the stairs and grew
Until you came up finally to wake me
Up with kisses and sweet whisperings,
A heated chair, kind words and fresh hot coffee-
Pure grace and love in all these offerings!
My lovely Papabear, I don’t deserve you,
But I’ll find my own ways to love and serve you.
