The Women’s Vote

“I won’t go out in this harsh cold to vote
Because it’s simply too much fuss and trouble.
Besides, look at my score on this cool game!
In five minutes I’ve just seen it double.
Why should I take the time in any case
Since our elections are not democratic?
The Electoral College skews the vote so hard
My vote’s nothing! Give me no more static!”
So the women, young and old, stayed home,
Indifferent, turned The Handmaid’s Tale to fact.
The vote they’d had for not one hundred years
Eliminated by Congress’ first act.
Indifference to freedoms so hard won
Thus made a century’s progress come undone.
