Love Sonnet for a Sad Climate

Chill winds blow through the hearts, deadening minds
Of people whose keen dread of other kinds
Who differ in a look or words or spirit
Whose skin and eyes are dark, or somewhere near it.
So hollow in our own mythologies
That we cannot see our pathologies,
Our hearts must wither, minds grow smaller, too,
As we love only mirrors, nothing new.
The cold, grey walls we’re building to keep out
Whatever we’re afraid of-truth or doubt-
They keep us in a prison, not the others
Whom we fear: our own sisters, children, brothers.
If one would love, one must let go of fear,
So I’ll just wish you love in this new year.

lovely words and such a sad state of some, I feel sometimes like our society is going backwards, back to a dark age, but on the other hand I feel a real surge of awakening among the grass roots people of the world, it is a feeling i have and I have noticed a lot of other people have too so I am choosing to remain positive and put my faith in the basic goodness of people to rise to the occasion and put an end to the approaching darkness.. once and for all. Much peace and love to you and yours for the new year and beyond! Michelle
