In Praise of the Cold (sonnet)

Winter sadness, dreary days drag past;
Shall we sit and watch them till the last
Grey, dark and dampish sun that barely shines
Shakes off its cloak of misery, redefines
The day for us as bright renewing Spring
No effort from us changing anything?
Let’s not be so weak and mumbly now;
Instead, come out and dip toes in the snow!
All we see now is preparatory for
The shining days of growth that we adore.
Embrace the cold and create your own sun;
To wish away the sparkling frost’s no fun!
Cold Winter has its beauties just like Spring,
See that, and see the life in everything.
