It’s Getting Late

When good isn’t good enough,
When very is too weak,
When all our truths are not enough
So we must shout, not speak–

Then we shall live as opposites
Rejecting one another.
You stay right there. I’m over here.
There’s too much ground to cover.

If I admit you might make sense,
If you admit I’m right
On one small, unimportant point,
What happens to the fight?

When what’s inside’s so fragile that
This conflict is required
To make us feel we’re good enough,
To make us feel desired–

All energy and life is lost
In blindly angry stances,
Till soon we lose our minds and seal
Off all our second chances.
