Birthday Sonnet

If you had never been, my Final Love,
What darkened caves must I have wandered in?
What chaos of the mind and heart alone
Would I have spent my only lifetime in?
When two such wanderers as you and I
Have finally met and recognized the grace
That offers love requited and a life
Of seeing beauty in the other’s face,
Then peaceful love, persistent happiness
Expand their lives and hearts for all the days
They seek each other’s good and gently build
Content excitement in ten thousand ways.
To wish you Happy Birthday, then is poor
Return for years of loving evermore.
