Darkened Sky

Heavy sky presses down
to guide us into the new season
that time past fruitfulness
past the work and play of Summer
where we find ways to blend
the old with the new
the lesson with the words

Last leaves feather
like piano trills
tickle our thoughts
into making fresh energy
from last season’s harvest
before we begin again
saved seeds planted in fresh soil

Music of Winter is slow
gentle like falling snow
glimmering crystal notes
supplying its own light
shining brighter for outer darkness
as we too shine for one another
and grow in the night
