Lichfield Cathedral

After hot coffee
and hard frost,
we set off into the sun.

The same light that flashed us
down the long road
gently illuminated
Lichfield Cathedral.

Glittering around stalls
filled with high pitched
droning of children’s queries.

Lacework carved alike
from stone and wood
silently witnessing the rivers.

Men and children
their women keeping watch
like the marble statuary
always the witnesses
always the boundaries
as two little ones sing
echoes into being.
