After the Rain

I reached both my hands
into sodden soil
seeking roots of words
to use for clay
finding nothing.

I flung it onto space
watched it writhe and dance
turning into shadows
building syllogisms
conjugating itself.

I waited longer and long
for a lover of truth
to breathe life
into that invisibility
rendering it blood-bright.

Now my hands are yours
I fill my lungs
with helium from your lips
float into darkest shimmer
into every night sky.
