THIS is how happy I am that it’s raining (sonnet)

Thunder’s deep rumble calls down to dry earth as a lover would,
Promising healing for all the cracked dryness like burning wood,
Too long exposed to the harshness of heat without water’s love,
Longing for softening touches of dancing drops from above.
Here’s hope repaid for the long drought now over, the thirst now slaked;
Here’s hunger satisfied, longing fulfilled, heart stunned fast awake.
Stroking the earth to anoint her with deep lovingkindness
Comes Storm’s breath in water to fill her with laughter, with happiness.
Earth now rejoices, with good growth and ripeness sings loud and long,
Though Summer’s over, her joy buried deep springs up fit and strong.
Throwing her flowers all skyward, she offers herself to her lover, Sky,
Knowing his faithfulness, showing her gratefulness, promise of life.
To the horizon, then, both run to meet and embrace in love,
Where Fire meets Air, lover Earth also meets Sky’s Rain in dance above.
