Sparrows take their wings for granted,
rolling in the dust
like happy dogs in sunlight
hopping across the garden
as if flightless.

If I could fly, I’d never walk,
catching breezes, updrafts,
like hawks, like hummingbirds
skating across the clouds
as if weightless.

I would remember and be grateful
(for all the grounded days)
for all the joy of feathered life,
those earthbound days
lighting every flight.

I know, me too, I’d never walk again but then do birds know… probably not, if we could become what we aren’t then the gratefulness would begin! if only…. 🙂 happy gardening!
