(please read with a drumbeat sounding in your head)
Crow-Queen calls from Hemlock Castle
Up against the bright blue sky.
Seagulls like hallucinations
Between her and bright clouds fly.
Here below her Chipmunk Children
Pack striped faces full of seed,
Still believing they will find it
In harsh Winter’s icy need.
Here between the Queen and Children
Beats the rhythm of my heart:
Silent, still and breathing sunlight-
Of the Crow Queen’s people, part.
Now comes Goldfinch, this realm’s money,
Cardinal, too, Earth’s flying flowers,
Sharing space with one another,
In their world no “yours” or “ours.”
Trees dance with the day’s cool breezes
As the Crow Queen’s world makes love
To its many varied creatures
Grounded here or up above.
This is where love’s light wings gather
On the heart-shaped backs of birds.
May I sing with their great chorus
Such great songs as need no words.
