Photosynthesis, a Sonnet

So many days I’ve spent without a sound,
Collecting mud beneath my fingernails
While singing to the soil net underground
Or spreading wildlife- safe bait for the snails.
As silent as the green ones that I tend,
As happy when I feel the sun we lacked,
I feed the birds and watch as they defend
The garden when the snails and slugs come back.
This tiny bee that hovers all around
Me as I photosynthesize the sun
Must know there’s nectar if it can be found,
Sees that the garden and I now are one.
While children play and fight now that school’s done,
I eat, before my time, the soil and sun.
