Love Tanka Cycle

Old dogs love deepest:
Shadow us from room to room,
Trust us in all things.
Let’s learn to take our pleasure
Like them, belly-up in the sun.

Summer storm’s coming:
How lovely is the sunlight
When darkness draws near.
So may I love you better
As we live our brightest years.

Eyes can be like hands:
So full of what they love best
Nothing else will fit.
Your face fills mine – or your son’s –
Or late-arrived hummingbirds.

There’s too much to love:
I don’t want to leave
This beautiful Earth and Life.
Let us take each other’s hands,
Wander forever happy.

If Hope isn’t strong,
If Imagination fails –
Then lie down with me.
We will travel together
Into each other’s old eyes.
