A Sonnet for Migraineurs

Ever had a man who beat you bloody
For years but wouldn’t ever let you go?
A course you failed no matter how you studied?
A weakness that you didn’t dare let show?
Ever been on Sisyphus’s mountain
With boulders that had been immersed in grease?
Or, thirsting painfully, find a dry fountain,
Been stuck in jail with no hope of release?
Ever had to fight an adversary,
But felt your hands tied tight behind your back?
Become a weight for him you loved to carry
And mourned for the productive life you lack?
If so, then migraine has been your burden, too.
Here’s hope: I aged out of it; so might you.
