Storm

Wild winds scud clouds
Send firehose rain
Wash treetops into great waves
Flood gardens
Empty streets

Storms draw my breath out
Fix my eyes on all at once
Sound beautiful fury
Open my chest to suck out my heart
Make me spin east-north-west-south…

Is this what first drew me to you?
Your wildness pulled my heart to you
You rained down storms of kisses
Your electricity made me answer with thunder
Your passion flooded out all misgivings

After the storm comes quiet
When the thunderheads clear, sunlight
Drenching rain sends roots deep
Made strong by lightning-fixed nitrogen
Everything breathes deep again and grows
