Sad Song of The Food Professional

When for ten years we used to cater
Weddings, funerals and such,
The compliments came early and later–
Dinner invitations, not so much.

Now I work as restaurant reviewer
In the paper and online,
And invitations are even fewer,
The home cooking I get is mine.

If you think (and wrongly so)
That we would come and judge your food,
All that we can say is, “No…
A welcome makes it all taste good.”

So, please, my friends, you are quite free
To avoid having us for dinner.
Don’t tell me that; just don’t invite me.
So may our friendship not get thinner.

For what it is worth, I would be delighted to have you and your husband over for dinner any time you find yourself in this part of the world, and I am confident that any review written (and I know you wouldn’t, but if you did) would be very favorable. My wife and I love to cook and she is extremely talented at it.
Just let us know when you are around these parts. 🙂

So what do you think?
