Redemption

What winding trails it took to bring me here!
And yet this is the Where I sought to be
When decades past I fantasized about
What life I’d live if choosing one were free.
Not free this trip–oh no! But worth the price
Of wrenching tears, of loss and of great pain,
But to this end I’ve come, and happily
Now understand the price of such great gain.
The forest blooms anew after great fires,
All losses then restored with fast new growth.
Just so does risky life burn expectations
Eliminating useless undergrowth.
The dreams I had then all have now come true
Since trials by fire led me here to you.
