Partnership Sonnet

This twine won’t hold for more than twenty days
Before it rots away in sun and rain;
These sugar snap vines, likewise weak alone,
Won’t climb too far against gravity’s strain.
Our copper pipe with bolts and iron base
Rigged to resemble masts of sailing ships,
Will fail to look like much of anything
If twine breaks or vine loosens grip and slips.
We need not worry–we’ve done this before
And recognize that each will meet the need
The other has for joining power to power,
Will create growth with safety and with speed.
They run together the entire length,
And in this way these weak things gather strength.
