When Potato Vines Breach

When potato vines breach
Soil like a black ocean
To take sudden breaths,
Light laps their leaves
Welcomes them to the surface
Runs its finger through their hair,
All unknowing that the secret
Of the rich vines it loves
Will remain buried in deep dark
Until light begins to wane
To go south for winter.

Nice one!I love how the first sign of a potato plant is that little whorl of leaf tips that pokes its brave little face through the dirt, I get very excited, almost as excited as looking in the pumpkin and squash hills for that tell-tail little “crack” in the dirt that means someone has sprouted. Nothing is better!

So what do you think?
