Mother’s Day

Behind a heavy curtain,
Close-guarded by corporate dogs,
Held behind walls of gold,
Lies the machinery that gurgles
And belches the reality
We are allowed to perceive.

Last week, it spewed
Celebrity sex change,
This week a mythology
That teaches motherhood
As a carnival of cash,
Flowing false faces.

Once the curtain goes transparent
For even a five-second glimpse,
Rust and corruption exposed,
It’s time to turn away,
Pick up tools and seeds,
Tend the soil and grow.
