Real Wealth (Sonnet)

Trees are leafing out now in gold coins
As Daffodils rise trumpeting the Spring;
Peonies extend their ruddy hands
As Hawk soars, supervising everything.
Real gold returns now on the Finch’s breast
Set starkly off by blackest inky wings,
While Robin, having established her nest,
Chirks and flutters, finally settled, sings.
Seed potatoes with their hearts of gold
Lie chitting in the light while preparing
To shoot up for the sun’s hot energy
While hiding treasure underground, unseen.
Thus Earth reveals the nature of true treasure
And scatters it around us without measure.
