Those old whirling swirls
Paper optical illusions
Old movies used them
To signify confusion

The heartbreaking beauty
Of last summer’s garden
Its lilies, tiny tomato stars,
Its hand-sized rabbit

You need to know
In the Fall your eyes
Swirl in all that beauty
Summer becomes your heart’s ornament

Here’s the odd thing:
Springtime grows it all again
New and fresh beauties
Taking none back from you,
My own Green Man
