Vision After Disruption

I closed my eyes and saw
These twisted sad destroyed
Bits of our home
Melt into soil
Become green
Stems and leaves
Flower and fruit

Vines sprouted from the holes
Left in our roof’s eaves
Twined down the siding
Raced across the roof
Flowered in purple
Morning glories

Soon heliotropes and potatoes
Sprouted from the windows
Spared by falling ice
Open to the warmth
Growing down
Shining up
Meeting vines from above

Blue siding grew strong stalks
Vines crept across them forming walls
Meeting reaching branches
Sprouted from the wood fence
Suddenly struck by sun
Choruses of color leapt out
Singing to Summer sun

Dogs and rabbits fed together
Lay baking in the sun
Slept in the shade
Of a thousand thousand leaves
Paws running
Noses twitching
Scenting one another
With toothy smiles
